How do I control it?
Start by opening the main zipper and flipping the power switch on the battery pack. A green light next to the USB port will let you know it’s powered on.
Then, locate the small button on the controller at the top right of the scarf:
- Single click – Switch to the next pattern
- Double click – Switch between animation groups
- Press and hold – Adjust brightness levels
There are two default animation groups:
- Static animations
- Audio-reactive animations
You can stick with the built-in options, or take it a step further by connecting to the scarf over Wi-Fi to create your own custom patterns and groups — totally optional, but a lot of fun!
How do I customize the patterns?
You’ll find the Wi-Fi name and password on the instruction card, and also printed on the side of the controller (just unzip the inner pocket).
- To connect:
- Scan the QR code for a quick setup, or
- Manually connect to the scarf’s Wi-Fi using the info provided
- If your phone doesn’t automatically open a browser, just go to http://4.3.2.1
From there, you can:
- Choose an effect
- Customize the colors
- Save your creation into a group
Once saved, you can switch between your custom patterns using the button—no phone needed.
How long does the battery last?
Battery life depends on the brightness level and the type of pattern you’re running. More intense patterns use more power, especially at higher brightness.
Here’s what you can expect on a single charge with a busy animation:
- Level 1 (dimmest): ~10 hours
- Level 2 (default): ~7 hours
- Level 3: ~6 hours
- Level 4: ~4 hours
- Level 5 (brightest): ~2 hours
Charging is simple – just plug a USB-C cable into the port on the battery pack. A full charge from empty takes about 2.5 to 3 hours with a 2A charger, the red light next to the port will turn off when charging is complete.

Is it durable?
Absolutely, we’ve designed the scarf to handle real-world use without letting you down.
Each LED is encased in waterproof epoxy and securely fixed in place to prevent excess flexing. We’ve also broken the lighting system into multiple segments, so if something does go wrong, it’s contained and won’t take out the whole display.
To help it last even longer:
- Avoid impacts, sharp bends, or crushing the scarf
- When storing, roll it gently with the battery pack in the centre and use the included bag
- Make sure you don’t get the controller or battery pack wet
If you ever run into issues, we’re here to help. The components are designed to be repairable, and we’re committed to making sure you’re happy with your scarf.
How do I wash it?
Washing your LED scarf is easy, just follow these steps to keep it clean and in great shape:
- Unzip the main pocket and remove the battery pack
- Open the inner zipper, unsnap and remove the controller
- Hand wash the scarf in cool water with gentle soap
- Press out excess water, rolling it in a towel helps
- Wipe the connectors to make sure they’re completely dry
- Hang to air dry – avoid heat or dryers
- Once fully dry, reattach the battery and controller
- Use a soft brush to fluff it up if needed
Can I hack it?
Yes, and we encourage it! The scarf is powered by open source WLED software running on an ESP32, giving you plenty of room to explore and customize.
While we’ve added our own interface to make things simple out of the box, you can still access the full WLED UI:
- Tap the LED preview to open the About window
- Then press and hold the wled-mm link to dive in
- You can toggle our UI in the Borealis section
Worried about breaking something? Don’t be. Our default configuration is baked right into the firmware. You can always recover by double-clicking and holding the button for 10 seconds to trigger a factory reset.
